Why November suddenly feels like a streaming festival
Forget pretending you’ll be productive this month. Studios saved their best cards for November, so whether you want big-screen spectacle, quirky indie vibes, or glossy streaming drama, there’s something to justify canceling plans.
Big-screen and streamed movies you won’t stop talking about
Nov. 1 kicks things off with Netflix adding Marguerite’s Theorem, a new title to add to the “I’ll watch later” pile.
Nov. 4 is hectic: theaters get the sequel Godzilla Minus Zero (yes, the monster returns), and Martin McDonagh’s Wild Horse Nine lands with Sam Rockwell and John Malkovich bringing the unusual energy you expect from him. Netflix also drops Une belle course that week.
Mid-month brings an eclectic mix: Nov. 9 sees the French legal drama Un bon avocat on Netflix, while Nov. 11 gives us Ti West’s fantasy take starring Johnny Depp as a very different kind of Scrooge.
Nov. 18 is for franchise fans and biopic hunters — The Hunger Games: Reaping Day explores a young Haymitch’s backstory, and Prime Video premieres Madden, with Nicolas Cage taking on the true-life angle.
The holiday stretch ramps up on Nov. 25 when Disney releases Billie: At the Crossroads of Worlds in theaters and a starry comedy featuring Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller and Ariana Grande arrives. Then on Nov. 27 Netflix drops Quasimodo, the Soul of Paris with Vincent Cassel giving the bells some attitude.
Series arrivals and returning seasons you should mark
Streaming serials are on a roll too. Nov. 4 sees Apple TV launch Season 2 of Stick with Owen Wilson bringing his trademark charm. Nov. 5 brings Keira Knightley back in Black Doves Season 2 on Netflix.
New French series Campus Drivers debuts on Prime Video on Nov. 6, and a week later Prime Video rolls out Season 3 of The Rings of Power on Nov. 11 — epic world-building returns.
Apple TV’s heist thriller 12 12 12 (starring Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan) drops on Nov. 13. On Nov. 16, Netflix and TF1 present The Countess of Monte Cristo with Audrey Fleurot, and Nov. 19 brings The Altruists, a tight miniseries centered on a fraud story.
Family-friendly excitement resumes on Nov. 20 with Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 on Disney+, and Prime Video closes the month with a big sci-fi play: Blade Runner 2099 premieres on Nov. 25.
What to watch first (short order guide)
Want spectacle? Start with Godzilla Minus Zero or Blade Runner 2099. Craving franchise lore? The Haymitch prequel is your ticket.
In the mood for stars doing wild things? Nicolas Cage’s Madden or the De Niro/Stiller/Grande comedy will scratch that itch. Prefer serialized drama? Stick, Black Doves, and The Rings of Power all promise addictive binges.
The takeaway
November turns into a buffet: big tentpoles, prestige dramas, buzzy limited series and a few surprise guests. Balance your calendar, stock up on snacks, and be ready to claim your couch for the next few weekends.
