What’s in cinemas today (July 24)
Got plans tonight? Spain’s lineup serves a little bit of everything: a buddy-turned-parent comedy, a greasy revenge thriller, and a horror that takes dieting into disturbingly literal territory. Short, sharp and wildly different — pick your vibe.
Tres de más — When an ideal couple gets an impossible surprise
This Spanish take on a successful Italian comedy follows a duo who’ve perfected the child-free life: great careers, fun evenings, no school runs. Then three youngsters magically appear insisting these two are Mom and Dad. Chaos, mistaken identities and awkward family moments ensue — all played for laughs and warm fuzzies rather than melodrama.
Expect a lot of physical comedy, awkward parenting fails, and sweet beats as the couple navigates an unexpected family reboot. If you like rom-coms with a generous side of “what would you do?”, this one’s got your name on it.
Motor City — One mechanic, one mission, lots of noise
Think pistons, grudges and a Detroit-set revenge arc. John Miller is a wrench-turning guy whose life is ripped away when a local crime boss frames him and sends him to prison. Fresh out, he’s not looking for closure — he’s looking for retribution.
This is pure action-thriller territory: tight fight scenes, snarling villains and a protagonist on a collision course with everyone who crossed him. If you want adrenaline and revenge served with engine oil, Motor City delivers.
Insatiable — A horror with a grotesque diet twist
Hana is a med student struggling with intense body image issues, and the film leans into the psychological horror of that. She falls into a grotesque and very unusual weight-loss trend — consuming human ashes — which opens the door to supernatural consequences.
The movie mixes unsettling imagery with mental-health themes, plus a hungry ghost that won’t let her forget what she’s done. It’s eerie, unsettling and more about the creep factor than gore; the macabre diet is played as a chilling plot device, not shock for shock’s sake.
Which one to choose?
Want a laugh and some heart? Go for Tres de más. Need to rev your engines and watch someone settle scores? Motor City is your ticket. Crave something creepy that messes with your head? Insatiable will stick around in your brain long after the credits roll.
