Weekend roundup: three films to know
Friday’s lineup in Spain is a neat little buffet: big-budget nostalgia, a loud parody sequel, and a creepfest that loves fluorescent lighting. Whether you want muscle, mess, or mind-bending corridors, there’s something for you.
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe — Nostalgia With a Sword
Think classic 1980s toy lore smashed into a modern blockbuster. This live-action take reintroduces Prince Adam after a long absence when a mystical blade pulls him back to Eternia. He finds his homeland under Skeletor’s thumb and has to team up with Teela and Man-At-Arms to stop the chaos and claim the hero role he’s been avoiding.
Expect big costumes, CGI clashes, and plenty of winks to fans who grew up with the action figure. It’s designed to feel epic and a little campy — the kind of popcorn movie that wants you to leave humming the theme and whispering “I have the power” to no one in particular.
Scary Movie — The Parody That Keeps Pranking Horror
The sixth outing in this spoof series drops the Core Four back into the crosshairs of a familiar masked menace, decades after their first run-in. It’s basically a greatest-hits of horror-movie clichés, turned up to eleven and doused in slapstick.
If you love meta jokes, gross-out laughs, and cheeky, borderline-risque gags that aim for belly laughs rather than subtlety, this one’s for you. Don’t expect a masterpiece — expect loud, silly, and intentionally ridiculous.
Backrooms — Office Lighting = Nightmare Fuel
This horror-thriller stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve and leans into the uncanny: a patient vanishes into a dimension that looks suspiciously like an endless, wrong department store. A therapist heads in after them, and what follows is claustrophobic, eerie, and weirdly melancholy.
It’s less about jump scares and more about slowly unspooling dread, odd architecture, and performances that keep you invested while the walls (and rooms) do the scaring. Bring someone to hold your hand — or a flashlight.
Which one should you see?
Pick He-Man for family-friendly spectacle and nostalgic flexing. Choose Scary Movie if you want hysterical nonsense and pop-culture pokes. Go for Backrooms if slow-burn atmosphere and existential dread are your jam.
Whatever you pick, this Friday’s slate has a mood for everyone — and plenty of reasons to head back to the cinema.
