Trailer Alert: Meet Sanders, the Self-Styled Vigilante
Joblo just premiered the first look at Citizen Vigilante, the new action-thriller written and directed by Don Uwe Boll. The clip paints a picture of a guy named Sanders who decides to fix Europe’s problems on his own terms — and, naturally, becomes a social-media sensation and Interpol’s new favorite headache. Costas Mandylor plays the international law-and-order foil, and yes, the film used to be billed as The Dark Knight (cue eyebrow raise).
Armie Hammer’s Comeback… Or At Least His Second Post-Controversy Role
Armie Hammer headlines the picture — his second screen outing since the accusations that surfaced in 2021. After a long inquiry, Los Angeles prosecutors opted not to file charges. Hammer’s first return was with Frontier Crucible last December; Citizen Vigilante is slated to drop June 19 in theaters and on VOD via Quiver. Whether Spain gets the same plan is still up in the air.
Uwe Boll: Still Making Movies (More Than You’d Expect)
When this project was announced, folks thought it would be Boll’s 37th director credit. Turns out Citizen Vigilante might actually be film number 40 — the man refuses to slow down. He’s also got a cheeky-sounding follow-up: 23 Years Later: The Castle of the Dead, an “unofficial” sequel to House of the Dead starring Jonathan Cherry and Ona Grauer. Why unofficial? Boll doesn’t own the rights, so expect it to be a wink-and-nod kind of affair. Cameras are rumored to roll in September.
Why the Premise Could Spark Debate
The movie trades in classic vigilante tropes — lone hero, messy morality, crowd applause — but adds a modern twist: virality. That makes Sanders less of a shadowy crusader and more of a branded phenomenon, which gives the story some interesting commentary opportunities. Also: casting Hammer guarantees the chatter will be louder than any gunshot in the trailer.
When and Where to Watch
Mark your calendars for June 19 — Citizen Vigilante will arrive in theaters and simultaneously on VOD via Quiver Distribution. If you live outside the main markets (Spain, we’re looking at you), keep an eye on local distributors for confirmation.
Quick Movie Roundup — Other Stuff We’re Talking About
Also on the radar: Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile (yes, mustache and memes included), Hotel Bombay’s striking moments, the evergreen buzz around Call Me by Your Name, the chaotic charm of Free Fire, controversies tied to The Birth of a Nation, the sleek vibes of The Man from U.N.C.L.E., the wild history of The Lone Ranger, J. Edgar as a solid watch, and The Social Network — still one of the year’s can’t-miss films.
